**The fateful night of the Titanic**

10th April 1912 A new chapter in the history of the world began on that day, when the huge luxury ship **RMS Titanic** started its journey from the port of Southampton to New York. Titanic was the largest and most technologically advanced ship of its time, with the best engineering and technology used in its construction.

The ship was a man-made 'invincible' machine, which was supposed to be unsinkable. With this belief, more than 2,200 people took part in the Titanic's maiden voyage. Some of the passengers were rich businessmen, some were dignitaries, and some were working people, who had migrated to America with the dream of a new life.

The first days of the journey were very dreamy. Standing on the deck of the huge ship, the passengers were enjoying the cool breeze of the North Atlantic Ocean. The ship's luxurious rooms, abundant food and entertainment facilities enthralled the passengers. The rich and the poor—everyone had become part of a grand ceremony.

But, April 14 night. That night, which will remain a sad chapter in history. At 11:40 p.m., Titanic officers suddenly noticed a huge iceberg directly ahead of the ship's path. An immediate attempt was made to change course, but it was too late. Titanic suffered a massive blow to the right side of her belly, and a stream of water began to enter the ship.

At first no one understood the magnitude of the danger. The ship's crew tried to calm the passengers, ordering them to don life jackets. But slowly as the seriousness of the situation began to emerge, the passengers panicked.

The builders of the ship never imagined that such an accident could happen. Titanic had a total of 20 lifeboats, enough for only 1,178 passengers. But, there were more than 2,200 people on board. This miscalculation cost hundreds of lives.

The night the Titanic sank, the sky was clear, the surroundings were bitterly cold. Many of those who were protected in the lifeboats did not survive due to the extreme cold. And those who could not get into the lifeboat, drowned in the cold water.

A young woman named **Rose** was a first class passenger on the Titanic. His family was very rich. Rose's mother wanted her to marry a rich man to enrich the family. But Rose had a completely different wish. He was independent and wanted to make his own life decisions. That night Rose met a young man named Jack. Jack was a third class passenger, a painter. Although they belong to two different classes, a deep love develops between them.

In the dark of night, as the ship begins to sink, Rose and Jack are trying to stay together. They realized that the chances of surviving this night were slim. Jack tries his best to save Rose. Place him on a piece of floating door, which can protect him from the cold water. But Jack himself floats in the cold water, and the cold slowly numbs his body.

Titanic's final moments were heartbreaking. All around, people's cries, cries for help, and gruesome deaths—all in all, the night turned out to be a tragic event.

After the sinking of the Titanic, about two hours later, a ship named **RMS Carpathia** arrived at the crash site and rescued the surviving passengers. But by then about 1,500 people had sunk to the bottom of the sea.

The Titanic disaster shocked the whole world. This accident proves that no technology or plan is completely safe. Just how deadly humanity's arrogance and overconfidence in technology can be, is evident in the Titanic incident.

Even today, remembering this tragic event, people look at the wreckage of the Titanic. The ship lying at the bottom of the Atlantic is still a reminder of the limitations of mankind and our helplessness in the face of nature.

Even though Rose came back alive, Jack's memory was forever etched in her heart. This memory was the strength of his life, which helped him to face all the sufferings. And he lived with this memory, hoping to be reunited with that beloved man one day.
